Effciency

In general, nobody knows how to find the minimum number of clicks a board can be solved in. However, for certain carefully chosen boards, we can use logic to figure out how many clicks are required. The first set of boards are the ones it is possible to be most efficient on, using the IOE metric: 3BV divided by the number of clicks. Note that the best known IOE for a real player on an Expert board is about 1.4.

Beginner Board with 18 3BV in 6 clicks = 3.000 IOE (by Biu Yuen)

Intermediate Board with 120 3BV in 36 clicks = 3.333 IOE (by Bertie Seyffert)

Expert Board with 290 3BV in 86 clicks = 3.372 IOE (by Bertie Seyffert)

The number of clicks required for a board could be as low as 1, but for official games, boards must have at least a certain 3BV to be considered acceptable: 2 for beginner, 30 for intermediate, and 100 for expert. Beginner boards with 2 3BV must take at least 2 clicks to solve, but what is the fewest number of clicks an intermediate or expert board can be solved in under these constraints?

Intermediate Board with 30 3BV in 10 clicks = 3.000 IOE (by Bertie Seyffert)

Expert Board with 103 3BV in 31 clicks = 3.323 IOE (by Bertie Seyffert)
